NETFLIX has confirmed that actors Charlize Theron and Kerry Washington are to star in a movie, which will be filmed in Northern Ireland.

The award-winning stars are joining the cast of the new film, The School for Good and Evil.

Scenes for the fantasy drama, which is based on a best-selling series of novels by Somain Chainani, will be shot at Belfast Harbour Studios.

The film follows a group of girls and boys who are taken to an institution and trained to become fairy tale heroes and villains.

Theron, an Academy Award winner who has appeared in movies such as The Old Guard, Bombshell and Atomic Blonde, plays Lady Leonaro Lesso, the Dean of Evil.

Washington, an Emmy Award winner who has starred in movies such as The Prom and American Son, will play Theron's best friend, Clarissa Dovey, the Dean of Good.
