A man has died after a single-vehicle collision in Co Antrim.

He was driving a blue Peugeot 207 when the crash happened in the Ballybogey Road area near Ballymoney at around 6am yesterday.

It is understood the car caught fire after the collision.

Police said a man died at the scene from his injuries.

A spokeswoman for the Fire Service said three appliances, one from Coleraine and two from Ballymoney, attended the scene.

She said the car was alight and that firefighters extinguished the blaze using two jets.

Police closed the Ballybogey Road at its junctions with Frosses Road and Tullaghgore Road while they investigated.

DUP councillor John McAuley offered his condolences to the dead man's family.

"I would express my sympathy to the family and friends of the young fellow," he said.

"It's another family plunged into sorrow and our thoughts and prayers are with them."

Meanwhile, the Coleraine Road between Garvagh and Coleraine was closed yesterday after a collision involving two heavy goods vehicles.

There were no injuries and the road was later reopened.
