Teenager arrested in connection with potential hate crime in Ballymena released

A 15-year-old youth arrested in connection with an assault in Co Antrim earlier this month has been released on police bail.

A man and woman were punched and kicked by a group of youths as they walked in the Paradise Avenue area of Ballymena at around 9.50pm on Saturday January 2.

The victims were taken to hospital for treatment of injuries to their face and head. Police are treating the assault as a potential hate crime. 

A 15-year-old male was this morning arrested and released on police bail this afternoon.

He is the second person to have been arrested in connection with this incident. 

A 15-year-old male was previously arrested and later released on bail pending further enquiries.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved in this incident, which police are treating as a potential hate crime".
