POLICE are preparing a file for the Public Prosecution Service over a Co Armagh church's alleged breach of coronavirus restrictions.

It is understood the file relates to Tandragee Baptist Church.

Police initially spoke to the church at the start of the month amid reports of a suspected breach during Sunday worship on November 29.

The alleged breach took place at a time when churches across the north were only allowed to open for individual prayer, weddings, civil partnerships and funerals.

These restrictions remain in place until this Friday.

At the time, a PSNI spokesman said the church had been "spoken to by police" and "encouraged to follow the regulations that are in place".

However yesterday, police released a statement which said the PSNI had "became aware that a Church in Tandragee intended to hold church services potentially in breach of the Health Protection Regulations.

"Last week, we engaged with a representative from the Church and, on Friday, we had extensive engagement with a specific individual in relation to this.

"On Sunday morning (December 6th) police attended the Church where a number of people were spoken to.

"A file will now be prepared and forwarded to the Public Prosecution Service".
