Police release man questioned over activities of New IRA

Police conducted a search and arrest operation in the Brandywell area of Derry

POLICE investigating the activities of dissident republican paramilitaries have this morning released a 21-year-old man they arrested yesterday.

Detectives from the PSNI Terrorism Investigation Unit, supported by district police in Derry City and Strabane, conducted a search and arrest operation in the Brandywell area and the man was taken to Musgrave Serious Crime Suite where he was questioned.

Derry City and Strabane Area Co-ordinator Chief Superintendent Darrin Jones said: "The search and arrest operation today was in relation to an ongoing investigation into the activities of the New IRA and to ensure the public are kept safe."

Following the man's release, police said their investigation is ongoing.
