Man still in custody over Birmingham bombings

A 65-year-old man arrested in connection with the 1974 Birmingham pub bombings which killed 21 people was still in custody last night.

Michael Patrick Reilly was detained at his south Belfast home on Wednesday under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He was named as a key suspect in 2018 by the ITV programme, 'The Hunt for the Birmingham Bombers'.

During the programme Mr Reilly was filmed being confronted by journalist John Ware in the car park of a west Belfast supermarket.

Mr Reilly has strongly denied any involvement in the blasts at the Mulberry Bush and Tavern in the Town pubs on the night of November 21 also injured 220 people.
