A CYCLIST has died followed a road traffic collision in Co Armagh.

The collision occurred in the Gilford Road area of Portadown shortly after 9.30pm on Wednesday.

It was reported to police that a red Hyundai Tuscon and a cyclist were involved in the incident.

The male cyclist, who was treated at the scene, died from his injuries.

The road was closed for a time and a PSNI spokesman said enquiries "are continuing".

Anyone with information or any witnesses are asked to contact police on 101.

Sinn Féin assembly member John O’Dowd said he was "saddened" to hear the cyclist had died.

"My thoughts are with the family, friends and loved ones of this man at this sad and difficult time," he said.

"An investigation into to collision is under way and I would appeal for anyone with information on what happened to get in touch with the police".
