Storm Aiden: Warning for severe weather across Ireland at weekend

Weather warnings are in place across Ireland starting from early tomorrow as Storm Aiden is set to batter the island over Halloween.

A yellow warning has been issued by the Met Office for all of the north while in the south Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange warning for 12 coastal counties warning of "severe and damaging gusts" up to 80mph.

A yellow warning for wind has been issued across all other counties in the Republic.

The warning in the north is valid from 6am tomorrow until 9pm.

Wind is expected to pick up overnight tonight with gusts up to around 45mph inland before reacing 50-60mph inland tomorrow. Higher gusts up to 70mph are expected in coastal areas.

Aiden, named by Met Éireann. is the first storm of the season to be named as part of a joint initiative between the Irish, British, and Dutch weather services.
