THE funeral of former Tyrone All Ireland winner Jonathan Curran will take place tomorrow.

The Coalisland man died on Saturday after taking ill at home and being rushed to Craigavon Area Hospital.

Requiem Mass for Mr Curran will be held at the Church of the Holy Family, Coalisland, at 12.30pm tomorrow.

His remains will then be taken to Donaghmore, where he lived with his family, for burial.

A father-of-two, his death has caused shock across Co Tyrone and beyond.

Known as Johnny to friends, Mr Curran was part of the Tyrone squad that beat Kerry to lift the Sam Maguire cup in 2008.

A club championship winner with Coalisland Fianna, he also won three senior Ulster championships with his country and an All-Ireland minor title in 2004.

A barber by trade, Mr Curran also played soccer with Dungannon Swifts FC, reaching the semi-finals of the Irish Cup in 2012.

Independent councillor Dan Kerr, who was a personal friend of Mr Curran, said “the Coalisland community is devastated".

“He had many friends in Coalisland and the whole county and will always be in our memories,” he said.

Mr Curran is survived by his parents Anthony and Alicia, his brother Stephen, sister Louise, partner Clodagh and two sons Neasán and Darsái.
