A mural in west Belfast dedicated to the Black Lives Matter campaign has been vandalised.

Police said white paint was thrown at the mural on the Falls Road early on Saturday and is being treated as a hate incident.

The artwork on the 'International Wall' tourist attraction was created earlier this year.

Féile an Phobail said yesterday that work was already underway to restore the mural.

"West Belfast will never back down to racism," it said.

"Today work began to restore the Black Lives Matter mural at our famous International Wall of Murals on the Falls Road after it was vandalised.

"Racism in all its forms must be challenged at every opportunity."
