DETECTIVES have appealed for 'dashcam footage' after a woman died in a three-vehicle collision in Co Down.

The crash happened at around 3.35pm on Wednesday on Holywood Road, Newtownards and led to the busy rural road, which is used by commuters to and from the town, being closed for several hours.

It happened in the Craigantlet hills outside the town and close to the entrance to McKees Farm shop.

PSNI and other emergency services attended the scene, but yesterday it was confirmed that the woman had died as a result of her injuries.

A spokeswoman said officers need help to piece together what happened.

"We can confirm that a woman has sadly died as a result of a road traffic collision on the Holywood Road, Newtownards on Wednesday 14th October 2020," she said.

"The three vehicle collision was reported to police at around 3.35pm on Wednesday afternoon.

"The road was closed for several hours but has now reopened.

"Officers are appealing for anyone who was on the Holywood Road at around 3.35 pm and may have witnessed the collision or captured dash cam footage to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 1095 of 14/10/2020."

Her name and age have not been released by police.

Alliance councillor Nick Mathison extended his condolences to the woman's family and added his voice to the appeal for dash-cam footage.

"If anyone has any information or has that footage I would ask them to pass it to police."
