A UNIVERSITY student who died in a suspected drug-related incident in England, has been described by her former school as a "model pupil".

Jeni Larmour (18) from Newtownhamilton was a deputy head girl at The Royal School Armagh.

Ms Larmour was one of four people to die in suspected drugs-related incidents in the north east of England at the weekend.

She was found dead shortly after 6am in student accommodation in Richardson Road in Newcastle.

Northumbria Police said inquiries were ongoing into the deaths of two 18-year-old women, who were found unresponsive over the weekend in the same Newcastle University student accommodation, and two men believed to have taken ecstasy elsewhere.

Police have made 11 arrests. Police made 10 arrests for drugs-related offences over the weekend, and today held a 30-year-old man on suspicion of supplying a Class A drug.

The Royal School said it had no doubt, given her academic ability and personality, "Jeni had a bright future ahead of her".

It added that she possessed "many of the values which this school seeks to promote".

"Her outstanding qualities as a pupil were recognised in her final year when she was appointed deputy head girl, a role she carried out to a very high standard," it added.

Ms Larmour started studying architecture and urban planning at Newcastle University last month.

A spokesperson for Newcastle University said: "We are shocked and saddened to learn of the death of one of our students and our welfare teams are offering support to those affected."
