Fourteen pigs have been killed in a Co Derry farm fire

FOURTEEN pigs have been killed in a blaze at a farm in Co Derry.

A total of six fire appliances, from Lisburn, Magherafelt, Maghera, Cookstown and Kilrea fire stations, attended the fire at a farm in the Bellaghy area on Thursday morning.

The fire service said the cause of the blaze, which broke out at around 11.44am, was accidental.

A spokesman for the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two jets, two hose reel jets and a short extension ladder to extinguish the fire.

"Fourteen pigs were sadly killed in the fire and the incident was dealt with by 3.31pm. The cause of the fire is believed to have been accidental ignition".
