Derry pipe bomb may have partially exploded, police say

Police appealed for information

A PIPE bomb recovered in Derry may have partially exploded, police have said.

Police described it as a "crude explosive device", which has been taken away for further examination.

Army bomb experts were called to the McGarvey Court area following reports yesterday afternoon of a suspicious device.

PSNI Sergeant Richard Donnell said: "It is believed the device may have partially exploded at some stage and minor damage is reported to have been caused to a garden at a property in the area.

"Thankfully no-one has been injured."

He appealed for anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to phone police on 101, quoting reference number 1159 28/9/20.
