Coronavirus: 567 cases confirmed across island of Ireland

There have been 319 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Northern Ireland in the last 24-hour reporting period, the Department of Health has said.

It is  the highest number of positive cases recorded over 24-hour period and brings the total number of infections to 10,542.

While the department’s statistical dashboard provides updates on the number of positive test results over the weekend, it does not relay up-to-date information on coronavirus fatalities on Saturdays and Sundays.

The latest death toll reported by the department on Friday stood at 578.

In the Republic, an additional 248 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed, the National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) said.

Another five people have died due to the virus.
