THE top US infectious diseases expert Dr Anthony Fauci is among the guests on tonight's Late Late Show.

Dr Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has contradicted US president Donald Trump on numerous occasions about the Covid-19 pandemic.

Former President of Ireland Mary McAleese and world champion boxer Kellie Harrington from Dublin will also appear on the RTÉ chat show.

Host Ryan Tubridy said he was looking forward to speaking to Dr Fauci.

"Imagine trying to protect the health of an enormous nation like that while being undermined by your own president," Tubridy told listeners of his RTÉ Radio 1 show yesterday morning.

"I mean, it is impossible. But Fauci, Dr Fauci, has handled himself with such dignity and skill and professionalism and courtesy – it is extraordinary how he keeps going.

"It is amazing. I look forward to his company no end."

Tubridy said Mrs McAleese will also be an interesting guest as she has written the book which "brings us behind the curtain to a lot of what she has done as president" and in other roles.

He described Mrs McAleese as a "very important figure in our country's present and past".

The Late Late Show airs tonight on RTÉ One from 9.35pm.
