BEREAVED relatives have called for a Troubles pension to be made available to all victims.

Family members of people killed gathered at Stormont yesterday to deliver a letter of petition to Secretary of State Brandon Lewis.

The letter, which was signed by 13 Belfast-based families, was handed to an NIO official.

A planned pension for victims of the Troubles has been stalled over guidance issued by the Northern Ireland Office.

Republicans believe it discriminates against ex-prisoners who may not qualify.

Nichola Bradley, who had an uncle, aunt and two cousins killed during the Troubles, said the "exclusion of any section of victims is causing consternation among many families, human rights organisations and those in the legal profession".

“Those of us here today have yet to have an effective investigation into the death of our loved ones decades after their deaths,” she said.

“We live with the pain and hurt every day and we know that the victims pension proposals will re-traumatise many families and if left unchallenged will establish a hierarchy of victims.

“If we are to heal the wounds of the past, all grief, all loss and all harm must be acknowledged.”
