A 10-year-old girl has been injured after she was struck by a car in a hit and run collision in Newry.

Police said the child was knocked off her bike as she cycled on the Killeavy Road on Sunday at around 4pm.

A PSNI spokesman said it is believed a woman was driving the white car, but the make and model of the vehicle was unknown.

He said the car "struck the girl on her bike knocking her down and sadly causing her some injuries".

"We believe it may be a female driving this white car, however, are appealing for anyone who may have seen this crash or who may have information that could assist us in ongoing enquiries to please get in touch," he added.
