A woman was thrown to the ground and had her car stolen in a hijacking in south Belfast last night.

It happened shortly before midnight on Ormeau Road, near its junction with Fitzroy Avenue.

PSNI Detective Sergeant Rachel Miskelly said the woman had parked hre white Fiat 500 outside a fast food takeaway and as she climbed out of the car a man approached, "threw her to the ground before getting into the car and driving off city-wards at speed".

The car was found parked in Fairhill Park, between the Shore Road and Antrim Road, in north Belfast around three hours later.

The woman suffered cuts and bruising during the hijacking.
