Shots were fired at a house in the Ballykeel estate in Ballymena last night.

Police said they are working to establish a motive for the attack which was reported at around 9.45pm. 

It was reported that masked men were in Orkney Drive and a number of shots were fired at a property. The masked men made off on foot.

Police said they believed this had taken place between 8.30pm and 9.30pm. 

PSNI Detective Sergeant Crothers described it as "a reckless attack" and said it was fortunate no-one had been injured.

"There is absolutely no justification for this type of activity, and those responsible clearly have no regard for the safety of others.

A few hours earlier a security alert was sparked in the nearby village of Broughshane and British Army bomb disposal experts confirmed that a suspicious object reported to police was a viable device. Read more
