'Old munitions' discovered during City Cemetery security alert

A SECURITY alert at Belfast City Cemetery has ended.

Police and ATO attended the scene after a suspicious object was discovered in the cemetery grounds on Tuesday afternoon.

The object was examined at the scene and has been described as old munitions which are in a non-viable state.

Further examinations of items recovered will be carried out in due course.

Police cordons inside the cemetery have been removed.
