AN important milestone has been reached in the fight against the coronavirus in the north west with the discharging of the last Covid-19 patient from intensive care.

The Western Health trust also confirmed that all Covid-19 patients at ICU in Altnagelvin have made a full recovery.

In a post on Twitter, the trust said: “Well done to our fantastic team in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Altnagelvin Hospital on discharging the last of all Covid-19 patients; all of whom are now 100 per cent recovered.”

SDLP assembly member, Mark H Durkan welcomed the news but urged people not to become complacent.

“This is testament to all the efforts of our health workers who have been working so hard and for so long in this battle. It is also a reflection on the great effort of the people of the north west who have adhered to the guidelines to stay safe.

“We are seeing the dividend of all the efforts which have been made but we must not be complacent. Complacency is the worst enemy here. We must keep up the effort to reach the end of the road an we must never forget all the families who have been left devastated by Covid-19 deaths,” he said.
