COMEDIAN Nuala McKeever accidentally crashed a Radio Ulster news bulletin with a remark branding British prime ministerial Dominic Cummings a d***.

The popular TV and radio personality was sitting in for Lynette Fay on her mid-afternoon show when she could be heard talking about the controversial figure as a colleague read the news headlines to listeners.

The former `Give My Head Peace' star said: "I was thinking he was such a d***, I had written his name as Richard Cummings, Freudian slip or what?"

The clip was quickly removed by BBC Northern Ireland and can no longer be accessed on BBC Sounds when listening back to the show which promises listeners "a light-hearted mix of music and chat".

A BBC Northern Ireland spokeswoman said: "The comments were not intended for broadcast and should not have been.

"This interruption to our news bulletin was the result of a technical error. We very much regret what happened and the upset caused."

Mr Cummings has been the subject of widespread public approbation after it emerged he took a 246-mile trip from his London to his parents' property in Durham after his wife appeared to be suffering Covid-19 symptoms.

The story has been a strong talking point and featured on most news bulletins since the revelations were published in the Daily Mirror and Guardian at the weekend.
