POLICE have released images of a motorcyclist taken shortly before they believe he was involved in a serious crash.

A major search was launched at Eglinton, Co Derry on Sunday evening following reports of the single-vehicle collision.

Police officers carried out a detailed search of the area around Muff Glen supported by a PSNI helicopter. An ambulance was also deployed to the scene.

However, no trace of the injured motorcyclist was found.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the Tamnaherin Road close to the junction with Edenreagh Road shortly before 8.30pm on Sunday.

“The collision involved a blue and white Suzuki motorbike, registration number R409COR. However, despite extensive searches of the area, the driver has not been located.

“We are very concerned for the safety of the driver involved in the collision and are appealing for help in identifying him so that we can confirm he is safe and does not require medical attention.”

Police released still images from CCTV cameras at a store in the area recorded shortly before the incident.

The spokesman appealed to the driver or anyone who could identify him to come forward.
