Derry music festival to feature composition based on civil rights movements

A composition based on civil rights movements around the world will form part of a music festival in Derry next month.

`Some Day: A Piece about Civil Rights' will premiere in as part of The Walled City Music Festival at The Glassworks on Saturday, March 7 with the help of international chamber ensemble, Trio Festivale.

The festival commissioned the piece from Derry-born composer Christopher Norby.

The piece presents civil rights movements as an ongoing struggle for equity.

In addition to the music, the performance of `Some Day' will feature a film montage of photography and footage from iconic figures such as Eamon Melaugh and Barney McMonagle in Derry, Spider Martin in Selma, Alabama, and contemporary TV footage from Irish News columnist and local journalist Leona O’Neill.

All the material has been crafted by motion designer and illustrator, Michael Boddy into a visual accompaniment to the newly-composed music.
