A RECORD 295-person syndicate is celebrating a Euromillions win.

The Little Ray's syndicate from the parish of Drumgoon in Co Cavan won more than €250,000.

The group was set up to raise funds to provide an extra room for a community childcare facility, which is growing in popularity.

Families each paid €100 towards the project and in recognition for their support the committee bought 100 lines in the Euromillions draw for 10 weeks.

Committee chairman Aidan McCabe said families had 2,000 chances of hitting the jackpot.

Winning the money was a huge boost for the community, he added.

Grants, along with €250,000 of local fundraising, has already gone into building the community facilities.

"How nice it is that a similar amount is now coming back to our community through this stroke of good fortune" Mr Cabe told RTÉ.

Around 100 members of the syndicate gathered yesterday to accept their prize.
