A flat has been damaged in a petrol bomb attack in Co Antrim.

Police are investigating after two devices were thrown at the ground floor flat in Ahoghill last night.

One smashed through a window into the living-room of the Brookfield Gardens property at around 11.30pm.

Police said a man living in the flat extinguished the resulting fire, but he was not believed to have been injured.

SDLP councillor Eugene Reid described it as a "reckless attack, which could have seriously injured people".

"This kind of criminality will not be tolerated," he said.

"I have been in contact with a number of concerned residents following the incident and I will continue to work with the whole community to send a clear message that this is not the will of the people in North Antrim.

"I would encourage anyone with any information to come forward as soon as possible."

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.
