HUNDREDS of people have applied for two summer jobs on the uninhabited Great Blasket Island off the coast of Co Kerry.

A company who runs tours to the island has advertised for two people to manage Great Blasket's accommodation and coffee shop.

The jobs will run from April 1 to around the beginning of October.

There are three cottages on the island that can accommodate up to 21 people.

The last remaining inhabitants of the Blasket Islands were evacuated to the Irish mainland in November 1953.

The islands were inhabited for centuries by a small Irish speaking population.
