CANNABIS plants worth £50,000 have been seized in Co Fermanagh.

Plants were found during searches at four houses around the village of Teemore, close to the border with Co Cavan.

A 48-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of drug-related offences. They remained in custody yesterday.

Specialist growing equipment worth £20,000, a vehicle and cash were seized.

The searches began on Tuesday and continued into the early hours of yesterday.

A PSNI spokesman said police had dismantled "a sophisticated growing operation which was spread across a number of houses in the area".

He added: "We will continue to do everything possible to prevent the supply of drugs and identify those involved in drugs criminality".

"They set out to ruin the communities that they live and operate in and they do not care about the damage that they cause, preying on those who are vulnerable," he said.

"They only seek to line their own pockets at the expense of causing harm to others."

Police asked anyone with information to contact officers on 101.
