A man and a woman suffered minor injuries and were left "badly shaken" after a man entered a house in Co Down and issued threats.

At around 8.30am yesterday, it was reported to police that a grey Mazda car was acting suspiciously at a car park in the Church Road area of Carryduff.

Police went to the scene and spoke to the driver before he made off at speed, colliding with a motorcbike and police vehicle.

Police gave chase on the A1.

Just before 10.20am a man entered a house in the Newtown Road area of Newry and threatened a woman.

The man escaped in the occupant’s black Mercedes towards the border, with a quantity of jewellery.

A man and woman in the house received minor injuries and were left badly shaken by their ordeal.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding these incidents and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed either of these vehicles or anyone with any information to contact detectives on 101..."

Sinn Fein councillor Liz Kimmins appealed for information about what happened.

"I would ask anyone with information as to the identity of these criminals to contact the police immediately".
