POLICE have appealed for information after a man aged in his thirties suffered injuries to his arm during a paramilitary-style assault in Co Down.

The man was targeted in the area of the football pitches in the Kilcooley area of Bangor at around 8pm last night.

Following the assault, the man was taken to hospital where he remains.

A PSNI spokesman said: "This was a despicable attack, and those involved in this type of attack do not represent the interests of any community, nor do they contribute anything to it."

Police have appealed for information.
