A WOMAN has died following a two vehicle collision in Portadown.

The woman, who is believed to be in her seventies, was the passenger in a blue Peugeot 108 which was involved in a collision with a silver Honda Accord on the Northway shortly before 2pm yesterday.

The driver of the Peugeot, also thought to be in his seventies, was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were described as "very serious".

A 54-year-old man who was driving the other car was arrested at the scene on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, a 43-year-old man was arrested for dangerous driving after a van crashed outside Newtownards, Co Down, yesterday afternoon.

The Ford Transit van crashed on Portaferry Road at around 2.10pm.

Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of driving when unfit through drink or drugs, dangerous driving and resisting officers.

He was being questioned last night.

It is understood he was not seriously injured.
