A LUXURY two-storey facility offering a creche, gym, restaurant and even reports of a barber shop awaits golfers and their families as the The Open kicks off today.

The lavish players' facility was purpose-built for the world's top golfers to relax and unwind both before and after they take to the fairways of Royal Portrush Golf Course.

The Open yesterday gave a sneek peek of what's on offer for the sports stars when it posted a tour of the facility on its website and social media channels.

It is the first time a purpose-built facility has been built for players at The Open.

Where coffee is served, there is a 'Northern Irish man' corner where photographs of local golfers Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke adorn the walls as well as an image of Brooks Koepka's caddie Rickie Elliott, who hails from Portrush.

And not only are the players looked after, but their children are catered for as well with a creche to keep the kids entertained while the fathers are out on the course.

Downstairs and there's a large gym for the players to use, while physios are on hand if needed.

In keeping with tradition, the locker-room has the old style wood effect, a place where the players will gather their thoughts before they tee off.

There are also images throughout the facility of former winners of The Open, including Rory McIlroy, each captured kissing the coveted Claret Jug and a massive board with the names of past champions on it.

The question is, whose name will be on the board next?
