A Belfast man has been remanded in custody charged with sexual activity with a child.

Ciaran James McAuley (30) was arrested by police investigating an alleged incident in the south of the city last Friday.

McAuley, with an address on the Ormeau Road, also faces a count of breaching a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) on the same date.

He appeared before Belfast Magistrates' Court.

According to the charges McAuley intentionally and sexually touched a child aged between 13 and 16 without their consent.

The alleged breach of the SOPO involved being in the presence of children.

No further details were disclosed during the brief hearing, and McAuley did not apply for bail.

District Judge Fiona Bagnall remanded him in custody to appear again by video-link in four weeks' time.
