Teacher charged with harassment and intimidation over Keady school row

St Patrick's High School in Keady

A NEWRY maths teacher man has been charged with harassment and intimidation following incidents at a Keady school.

Patrick Hollywood (38), of Upper Fathom Road, Newry, has been charged with a series of intimidation charges, harassment and causing others to fear violence on dates from January 2017 to August 2018.

The defendant appeared at Newry Magistrates Court yesterday.

The charges follow an investigation into complaints of harassment and intimidation surrounding incidents at St Patrick's High School.

The Co Armagh school was struck with serious allegations of English and maths GCSE exam cheating by teachers.

Wearing a grey suit and red striped tie, the accused spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth.

A detective constable said she could connect the accused to the charges.

Over 45 statements of witnesses have so far been entered in the case. The number said in court is expected to rise.

A defence solicitor said that his client would be asking for an independent examination of "a raft of forensic material largely made up of computer files and calligraphy".

"This is fundamental to the defence," said the solicitor.

Prosecution alluded to a summary of facts just submitted, which would need time to be reviewed.

District Judge Stephen Keown adjourned the case to May 22 for confirmation on a full file.
