THE family of a murdered nationalist councillor from Co Tyrone met with Irish government officials yesterday to seek help in finding out who killed him.

Patsy Kelly went missing after locking up a bar in Trillick on July 24 1974. His body was later found weighed down in a lake 20 miles away.

No-one has ever been brought to trial for the murder. His family believe members of the security forces were involved.

Sinn Féin West Tyrone MP Órfhlaith Begley, who accompanied the family, welcomed yesterday's meeting in Dublin.

"I welcome Tánaiste Simon Coveney's commitment to supporting the Kelly family in their fight for truth and justice, by engaging with the British government," she said.

Ms Begley claimed the government was "failing to fully disclose all files held by both British police and military".

"The Kelly family remain committed to seeking the truth about the abduction and murder of a husband, father and community representative," she added.
