A man serving a life sentence for murder has gone on the run from Maghaberry Prison.

William Robert Martin did not return to the jail today after he was allowed out for unescorted pre-release training.

The 48-year-old is 1.73m tall with grey hair and brown eyes.

He has a number of scars and tattoos on his arms, including a skull with the words 'do or die' on his upper right arm.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Prison Service said: “At this time we are focused on returning him to custody and we would ask anyone with information to contact the PSNI on 101 immediately.”
