A son of murdered solicitor Pat Finucane is to be the keynote speaker at this year's annual memorial lecture.

Lawyer John Finucane was just eight-years-old when in February 1989 his father was gunned down by loyalist gunmen in his north Belfast home.

On the 30th anniversary of the murder, his son will will provide an update on the family's lengthy champaign for justice as well as a personal reflection on his father and his legacy.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams TD will speak of his personal memories of the solicitor, who was 39-years-old when he was murdered by a loyalist gang found to have been headed up by a number of state informers.

The family had originally believed they were to be granted a public inquiry however, former Prime Minister David Cameron instead ordered an investigation by a senior lawyer Sir Desmond de Silva.

Sir Desmond's review found "shocking" levels of state collusion involving the army, police and MI5.

The event will be held at St Mary’s University College in Belfast this Sunday.

Doors open at 12 noon and the event begins at 1pm, admission is free.
