A SHOP worker was held up by a robber brandishing an eight-inch kitchen knife in Belfast city centre.

The armed robbery happened at a Mace Express shop on High Street at around 9.30pm on Saturday.

The shop worker was uninjured and the man, who was wearing a scarf covering his face, fled with a sum of money.

"This was someone who was simply doing their job at their place of work when what must have been a terrifying ordeal occurred," the PSNI said.

Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact officers on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
