POLICE launched a murder investigation yesterday following the death of a woman in her home in Co Fermanagh.

Pauline Kilkenny (59) was found dead by her sister at about 1pm at Cornacully Road between Belcoo and Garrison.

Her body was discovered after concerns had been raised when she did not turn up at work.

The contents of the victim's handbag and her car had also been removed from the property.

A 28-year-old man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of murder, suspicion of possession of cannabis and theft of a motor vehicle.

PSNI detective chief inspector John Caldwell, who is leading the investigation, said: "A post-mortem examination has yet to take place but I am treating this as murder."

He said his "thoughts go out to the victim's family, including her sister who will no doubt have been left traumatised by the discovery of her sister's body".

He appealed for anyone with information to phone detectives at serious crime branch on 101 quoting reference 573 13/11/18 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

It's understood Ms Kilkenny worked as a shop assistant and lived on her own.

Fermanagh councillor Bernice Swift said: "I express my sincere condolences to the entire family circle of Pauline Kilkenny on her horribly tragic and wholly shocking death.

"The thoughts and prayers of the Belcoo and neighbouring parish community are with the family during this traumatic time of grief and loss."

Rosemary Barton, an Ulster Unionist MLA for Fermanagh and South Tyrone, described the death as "dreadful news which has stunned the tight-knit local community".

"This is obviously an absolute tragedy for the victim's family and I would urge anyone with any information, no matter how big or small, to contact the PSNI immediately," she said.
