THE DUP's Emma Little-Pengelly was told by a party special adviser he planned to film Jonathan Bell "drunk and talking sh*t".

Timothy Cairns made the remarks in text messages to Ms Pengelly, now a DUP MP, in 2015 when they were both special advisers (Spads) to the party.

Mr Cairns was Spad to Mr Bell when he succeeded Arlene Foster as the minister leading the Stormont department in charge of RHI.

The inquiry yesterday heard that Mr Cairns told Ms Pengelly he would report Mr Bell's "every transgression to TJ [ex-DUP Spad Timothy Johnston] who wants him out".

He wrote: "Also I've made sure Andrew [Andrew Crawford, another ex-DUP Spad] and Arlene [Foster] know that he is messing up their department.

"My goal now is that he has one year max and done.

"If I get a chance I'm going to film him drunk and talking sh*t and show it to TJ."

The RHI inquiry has already heard of a dysfunctional relationship between Mr Cairns and Mr Bell.

Mr Cairns accused Mr Bell of "bullying and aggressive behaviour" towards him and other DUP members including Ms Pengelly, but Mr Bell denied the allegations – claiming he was the victim of a "smear campaign".

After a dispute between Mr Cairns and Mr Bell in London in June 2015, an attempt was made for the pair to sort out their differences at a meeting.

However, in the messages Mr Cairns said his complaint about Mr Bell's "temper" went down "like a fart in a spacesuit" and he was "dreading" his return to working with the minister.

RHI inquiry chair Sir Patrick Coghlin said it showed that Mr Johnston's "so-called mediation was a disaster".
