YOUNG people from across the border have come together for a 'Sleep for Peace' to mark International Day of Peace.

Hostelling International Northern Ireland (HINI) and An Óige – The Irish Youth Hostel Association joined forces for the residential at Bushmills Youth Hostel in Co Antrim.

Young people from North Coast Integrated College in Coleraine and Gairmscoil Chú Uladh in Donegal took part in the project promoting peaceful relationships between communities and across borders.

A second residential will take place at Errigal Youth Hostel in Co Donegal next month.

Dermot O’Lynn of HINI said: “Bringing groups of young people together for adventure and exploration is what the hostelling movement is all about. We are sure that this partnership with An Óige will continue long into the future and we thank our funders Provident Financial and the Irish DFAT for making this long planned project a reality.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Brenda Chivers, attended an International Day of Peace gathering in Ballycastle.

Each year International Day of Peace is observed globally on September 21st. The day is devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.

Among other events in Northern Ireland this week, Rev Chris Hudson and Fr Martin Magill came together to host a cross-community, multi-faith service of reflection in Belfast where the names of all those who died in the Troubles were read aloud.
