Belfast City Hall last night hosted a special reception in honour of Ireland’s grand slam-winning rugby team.

Several members of the triumphant squad, including captain Rory Best, attended the event where both the Six Nations and Triple Crown silverware were on display.

Belfast mayor Nuala McAllister welcomed the players to the city hall before Mr Best spoke to those in attendance.

“Winning the grand slam for this team was a very special occasion,” he said.

“We have been involved in championship winning teams over the last couple of years but I think to win a grand slam, and to be only the third Irish team ever to achieve such a feat, was really, really special.”
