The BBC’s lack of coverage of Gaelic games was discussed when Sinn Féin met with Ulster Council representatives yesterday.

The party’s northern leader Michelle O’Neill led a delegation to the meeting which included MLA Sinead Ennis and MP Paul Maskey.

Ms Ennis has previously voiced concern that the BBC's coverage of the GAA does not reflect the popularity of Gaelic games.

Speaking after the meeting Ms O’Neill said the issue was discussed.

“Sinn Féin believes that the BBC must do more for northern Gaels," she said.

“We put a number of suggestions to the Ulster Council to attempt to move this forward.”

She also reaffirmed her party’s support for the Casement Park project, which some local residents are opposed to.

“I assured the Ulster Council of Sinn Féin’s support for the development of Casement Park and welcomed the continued good work that the Ulster Council have been undertaking,” she said.

“Sinn Féin will be seeking urgent meetings with both the Department for Infrastructure and the Department of Communities about the ongoing delay of Casement Park.”
