Teenager arrested after homeless man's murder in Maghera released on police bail

A 17-year-old arrested by police investigating the murder of a homeless man in Co Derry has been released on police bail.

The body of Polish national Piotr Krowka (36) was found at a disused church property on the Glen Road in Maghera on Tuesday April 3.

It is believed he died after receiving a sustained beating, with police confirming the victim suffered serious injuries to his head and body.

It is understood the dead man's sister lives in the Maghera area.

A male 17-year-old was arrested in Maghera on Tuesday April 10 and released today on police bail pending further inquiries.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Maghera as part of the investigation on April 6 and released on police bail on April 8.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce from PSNI Major Investigation Team has described the victim as a “vulnerable homeless man” who they believe had been sleeping rough in the derelict property.

The PSNI is seeking to establish Mr Krowka's movements in the days before his death.
