A 19-year-old arrested by police investigating the murder of a homeless man in Co Derry has been released on police bail.

The body of Polish national Piotr Krowka (36) was found at a disused church property on the Glen Road in Maghera on Tuesday

It is believed he died after receiving a sustained beating, with police confirming the victim suffered serious injuries to his head and body.

It is understood the dead man's sister lives in the Maghera area.

A 19-year-old man was arrested in Maghera as part of the investigation on Friday evening, and was released on police bail yesterday morning pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Geoff Boyce from PSNI Major Investigation Team has described the victim as a “vulnerable homeless man” who they believe had been sleeping rough in the derelict property.

The PSNI is seeking to establish Mr Krowka's movements in the days before his death.
