Masked burglars tie up woman and set her house on fire

Masked men set a woman's house on fire during a burglary

MASKED burglars broke into a woman's Co Down home, tied her up and set the house on fire yesterday.

Two men broke into the house on School Road outside Clough in Co Down at around 1pm.

The intruders tied up a woman in her fifties before stealing an iPad and a MacBook and a grey coloured Peugeot 206 car.

The burglars also started a fire in an upstairs room of the house. The woman was rescued when two passers-by brought her to safety.

Police said the woman was not injured but was left shocked by her ordeal.

The house has been left badly damaged by the fire.

The Peugeot car was discovered burnt out at The Old Mill on the Clarkill Road in Castlewellan shortly after midnight in the early hours of Tuesday 20th February.

Police appealed to anyone with information to contact them.
