Gretta Brandler, originally from Omagh, was just two years old when women got the vote. She says while a lot has changed during her life, domineering men are holding women back.

In a no-nonsense interview with the BBC's Victoria Derbyshire, Mrs Brandler said: "As long as men are stupid and greedy then I don’t see any change –much. It will always be there because it’s the men’s DNA – built-in to be domineering and bossy and always right."

Born during the First World War in Omagh, Mrs Brandler was raised on a farm, according to the Brentwood Gazette. She moved to Shenfield in Brentwood with her husband Hans 70 years ago and has lived here ever since. She has a son and a daughter.

Speaking to Ms Derbyshire, Mrs Brandler shocked some listeners with her forthright views on women's rights. "Women have been fighting and battling for some sort of equality all this length of time with some success but of course, not nearly enough because men are by nature control freaks," she said.

"The fact that they are 7-year olds in long trousers doesn’t make any difference. They are still control freaks. They’re spolit rotten when they are young and they hold on to that for the rest of their lives."

Marking 100 years since women won the right to vote, Mrs Brandler added: "You look at what we’ve got in parliament these days. Seven year-old boys fighting and squabbling and name-calling with no loyalty whatsoever.

"Women have moved a bit closer to the glass ceiling. They have but it is a battle... A woman has to be twice as good to be equal to a man."

"As long as men are stupid and greedy then I don’t see any change – much. It will always be there because it’s the men’s DNA – built-in to be domineering and bossy and always right."

Twitter users were gushing about Mrs Brandler.
