A DONEGAL man is to stand trial accused of attacking a former Derry City footballer.

Martin Cheung (39) of Ardban in Muff, Co Donegal appeared at a preliminary enquiry at Derry Magistrate's Court today.

He is charged with wounding Barry Molloy with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm between May 27 and May 30 last year.

Molloy spent 10-years with Derry City and captained the club. He retired in 2016.

The court heard it was accepted there was a case to answer and Cheung said he did not wish to call any witnesses or make any statement at this stage.

He was returned for trial to appear at the crown court on January 30 and was released on continuing bail.
