A TEENAGER has died following a crash in Co Antrim over the weekend involving a car and scrambler bike.
Marcus Forsythe (15) died after the crash on Taughey Road, outside Ballymoney, which happened shortly before 4.50pm on Saturday afternoon.
A second passenger on the scrambler was treated in hospital for injuries not thought to be life-threatening, while the car's occupants were treated at the scene for shock.
Marcus was from Seacon outside Ballymoney and was a pupil at Ballymoney High School.
The teenager had a keen interest in cars and scramblers, posting various photos of them on his Facebook page.
DUP North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey yesterday expressed his condolences.
"Sadly another family has been plunged into sadness as a result of a fatal accident on the Taughey Road outside Balnamore," he said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young man who has tragically lost his life.
"This was yet another tragic accident on our roads. Unfortunately this year we have had too many lives lost as a result of accidents. It is a sad reminder to us all that we do not know what a day holds for us."
Ulster Unionist councillor Darryl Wilson described the death as a "massive loss to the community".
"Seacon is a very small tight-knit community. Everyone in the village would know Marcus and he will be very much missed," he said.
"The young fella went to school in Ballymoney and he was very popular among his peers."
Police appealed for anyone who was on the Taughey Road around the time of the crash to contact officers in Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference number 1042 of 23/09/17.
Meanwhile, police investigating a crash outside Derry last week in which a female pedestrian was killed have renewed their appeal for information.
Patricia Campbell (48), from Drumahoe, died after being struck by a car on Glenshane Road in the early hours of last Monday.
It's understood she had been walking back from a fundraising event for victims of the recent flooding.
Police urged anyone with information to contact officers at Strand Road on 101, quoting reference 117 of 18/9/17.
